    Manage custom categories

    Custom categories start with a zero budget. Rename at any time; remove only if unused and its budget is zero.

    Recurring expenses

    Set up rent, bills and subscriptions once. Due expenses are added when Ledger opens or while it stays open, including missed months. Nothing runs while the file is closed. Dates such as the 31st move to the last day of shorter months.

    Add a monthly expense

    A past first date adds all payments due since that date. Editing a schedule affects future payments only; existing expenses remain editable separately.

    Transactions

    Filters affect this list and “Export shown CSV”; the overview and charts always show the selected month.
